WCIV ABC News 4 partners with Charleston area beaches for easy access to beach information, all in one place.
May 10, 2022 -- Charleston SC – It’s the weekend. It’s hot. All you want to do is go to the beach. But you’re stuck in traffic, barely moving. The kids are cranky. “Are we there yet?” You’re so close, you can smell the salt air. But who knows how much longer it will take? ABC News 4 is Working 4 You every weekend with the answer.
ABC News 4’s Traffic Safety Expert Trooper Bob will have a look at expected beach traffic and give tips on how to navigate traffic patterns so viewers can know B4 they go. Trooper Bob says, “The key to keeping the traffic flowing is limiting distractions, getting there before peak drive times and knowing where to park.”
WCIV ABC News 4 is teaming up with Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Folly Beach, and Mount Pleasant to provide important beach information free and easy. Find it on ABCNews4.com and ABC news 4’s social platforms.
Real time traffic information for all the beaches will be available on rotation for you from the live Beach Traffic Tracker, maps to show you free and paid parking, beach forecasts from the Most Accurate Storm Tracker weather team, tides, and special events.
“We want to make sure that when people go to the beach, they experience what they’re supposed to, a day filled with sun, sand, surf, and good times. Keeping an eye on the weather and the ocean conditions is a way for us to make sure folks can have fun worry free. Not every day is a great beach day, but you’ll know for sure which ones are,” says Chief Meteorologist Dave Williams.
The information can easily be found by going to the “Beach Information Station” tab at ABCNews4.com or in the ABC News 4 app.
ABC News 4 also produced a PSA with the four mayors...Mayor Phillip Pounds of Isle of Palms, Mayor Patrick M. O’Neil of Sullivan’s Island, Mayor Tim Goodwin of Folly Beach, and Mayor Will Haynie of Mount Pleasant. The mayors team up with Trooper Bob to share the importance of being prepared for your beach trip and how you can help reduce headaches along the way.
Explore Charleston is also a proud sponsor. "At Explore Charleston we understand how important it is for our visitors and residents to have accurate weather, parking, and traffic information before going to the beach - that’s why we're delighted to sponsor this fantastic new program featuring Trooper Bob,” said Helen T. Hill, Chief Executive Officer of Explore Charleston. Trooper Bob added, “The CARTA shuttle is a great option to get to IOP!”
ABC News 4’s goal is to help make our viewers trip to the beach a little smoother and a lot more enjoyable.
