SCDOT Presents Alternative Configurations for IOP Connector
On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, SCDOT presented five alternative configurations for the IOP Connector. SCDOT hired RK&K, civil engineer consultant, to perform a comprehensive analysis of existing conditions of the bridge and develop recommendations for operational improvements to move traffic on and off the island more efficiently.
SCDOT's study requirements included the following: Continue to provide bike and pedestrian accommodations on the bridge, minimum 11-foot travel lanes in each direction, minimum 4-foot shy lane for the concepts that have vehicular traffic closer to the edge of the bridge, minimum 1-foot shy line for the multi-use path side, 10-foot minimum for the multi-use path, avoid pedestrian/bike traffic crossing in front of vehicular traffic.
SCDOT will present the alternative configurations to Mount Pleasant's Town Council in January 2023, followed by a 30-day public comment period.
