Storm Debris Collection Update
The Public Works Department has been steadily working overtime on post-storm debris cleanup.
Hurricane Ian was not a declared disaster in Charleston County; therefore, the County did not activate the emergency debris contract that the City is a part of. Each municipality is responsible for their own debris operation.
The Bees Ferry landfill has not extended weekly operating hours. The landfill’s schedule limits how many passes our crews can do each day. Bees Ferry Landfill is open Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and our Public Works crews are working overtime on Saturdays to accelerate the debris collection schedule.
The Public Works Department has completed 1st pass debris collection operation in the following locations:
Wild Dunes:
- Yacht Harbor, Abalone Alley, Barnacle Road, Palm Court, Morgan Place, Waterway Island, Fairway Village, Dolphin Road, Edgewater Alley, Fishers Alley, Shad Road.
Outside of Wild Dunes:
- Breach Inlet, 1st Avenue through 24th Avenue, including Beachside subdivision, Palm Boulevard from Breach Inlet through 14th Avenue
Current Schedule:
- Wednesday, 10/12: Crews are collecting debris at 25th Avenue.
- Thursday, 10/13 and Friday, 10/14: Sandcrab Court, Sandpiper Court, Lake Village Lane, Twin Oaks, Marsh Island, Back Bay Drive towards Marsh Point.
- Saturday, 10/15: Debris collection will begin at 26th Avenue
We appreciate everyone's patience.
