Council Approves Resolution Urging the Public to Wear Protective Face Masks
On May 26, 2020, City Council approved a resolution urging all Isle of Palms residents, tourists and visitors to wear protective face masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Citizens should follow the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and wear appropriate face coverings anytime they are in a public setting that could bring them into contact with other people outside of their family unit.
According to SCDHEC, evidence is increasing about the high rates of infection in people who do not have symptoms and don't know they are infectious. This places everyone at risk of getting the virus or unknowingly transmitting it to someone else. Steps we can take to protect ourselves and others include:
• Practicing social distancing
• Wearing a mask in public
• Avoiding group gatherings
• Regularly washing your hands
• Staying home if sick
