Congratulations!  The
City of Isle of Palms has won a 2008 Municipal Achievement Award for the "Bark Park" at the Recreation Center.  The Municipal Association of South Carolina bestows Achievement Awards to municipalities in the state to "recognize and encourage innovations and excellence in local government." Read a summary of the achievement.  Watch a video (2:53 minutes) of the achievement.

City Council has passed
Ordinance 2008-03 which prohibits "abandonment of personal property on the beach and leaving the beach in an unsafe condition."  Items such as tents, chairs and umbrellas may be removed and disposed of by the City if they are left unattendand on the beach after sunset.  The beach is swept regularly to clear unattended property.  The goal of the ordinance is to protect both people and endangered loggerhead sea turtles from the hazard created by beach debris.  Clear the beach of all your personal items as you leave each day.  Also, please fill in any holes that were dug in the sand.  Thank you.
